Kevin Werner is a friend and supporter of the Kentucky Charitable Gaming Association. He owns the website PokerInKentucky.com, and if you're hosting an event, he can help you advertise it statewide. Kevin has a great deal of expertise with Poker tournaments, and he also provides various services for little or no cost to charities.
In Kevin's words:
To promote the fair and equitable play of Poker in the Commonwealth
This includes the only two forms of legalized poker: Charitable and promotional free-roll events.
I believe that the long term survival of Poker is dependent on the fair, open, and honest actions of all parties involved.
For charities, I provide a number of free services, including free listings of there events on my site, and free consultations by phone. I can provide expanded promotional services. The fees for the expanded services can usually be bartered in exchange for sponsorships and entries into the event The only time I ask for cash is if there is an actual expense, and even then I try to have the charity pay for it directly.
If I receive anything in exchange for my services, I try to use it to promote my site. For instance, if I receive a free entry into an event, I may give it away to one of the members of my site or hold a free-roll event prior to the actual event. In rare instances, I may sell the entry to a player at a discount, but only if I was sure the player would not play that event otherwise. I might use the entry myself, but only if I though my involvement with the event was low enough to avoid the appearance of impropriety.
It's important for organizations to know that, by law, I can not run an event for them. I can help them plan and promote the event and give advice but I can not make ANY of the decisions.
Unfortunately, most charities wait until it's too late to contact me. If they wait until they have a license in hand, just about the only thing I can do for them is list the event on my site. If charities want to maximize the benefits of my services, they need to contact me when they first start planning the event. That way I can give them advice on how to plan for long term success, what to avoid, and how to get larger profits out of the event.
I also can help charities coordinate events with other charities. With coordination, they can have things like multi-day events such as a championship series, low-cost cooperative advertising, and larger corporate sponsorships."
